Spring Information

Although many exciting days are ahead of us prior to summer holiday, faculty and staff are eagerly anticipating the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.   Our preparations are ongoing as we continue our work to achieve the mission of St. Gabriel’s Catholic School.  Since opening in 1999, the School has built an impressive record. Even so, with our current students, faculty, facilities, and families, we can say with confidence that the best days of St. Gabriel’s are yet to come.

On the WhippleHill Resource Board,  you will find important information to help you prepare for next year including: uniform information, fall sports registration, 2016-2017 school calendar, etc.  Let me highlight a few items:

  •        The first day of school is Wednesday, August 17 2016
  •        The last day of school is Friday, May 26 2017 (Memorial Day Weekend)
  •        Jumpers will be introduced as part of the uniform for lower school girls
  •        Our 7/8 tackle football team will be comprised of St. Gabriel’s students only
Please take the time to look through the attachments.  If you have any questions, please let us know. The partnership between the School and families is the sacred core of our St. Gabriel’s.  It is a partnership built on mutual respect, abiding affection, and deep faith.  We share a love for our children. Through these relationships, we learn essential aspects of our students and can more effectively tailor our teaching to meet their needs.

Thank you for entrusting St. Gabriel’s with the education of your children.

Best regards,
Dan McKenna

In the Name of Love...

This past Saturday the St. Gabriel's community gathered at the JW Marriot for an evening celebrating the past and dedicated to supporting the future.

The 1980's theme was embraced by attendees: women were in big dresses with even bigger hair; men were mustachioed or sporting slick Miami Vice fashions.  And the music, courtesy of the Spazmatics, provided the soundtrack to a wonderful event.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make the night happen!

Not only was the Gala a lot of fun, the night raised important funding for our School's programs and initiatives.  The financial support so generously contributed at this event allows our School to fulfill its mission.  While the final numbers are still being counted, the preliminary tally indicates a wonderfully successful event!  Thank you to all of our benefactors!  All members of our School community are inspired by your confidence and love.  Thank you!!

We look forward to Grandparent's Day, the musical, field day, the Big Sweat, et al.  These indelible traditions remain in the memories of our students for the rest of their lives and are unique to St. Gabriel's. Your support makes them happen!

Thank you again for all you do on behalf of St. Gabriel's Catholic School and our students.  Please continue to pray for them; be assured that they are praying for you.

Go Karts!

Check out this great video of the St. Gabriel Le Mans!  Cheers to Mr. Scallon and his eighth grade students for designing, prototyping, and deploying their karts.  A special thanks to Mr. Benfield and the d.Lab for making in Fuentez Hall for providing the space both literally and creatively for these young engineers.

Making in the news!

Read this great NY Times article about making/tinkering.  Come see how St. Gabriel's new maker space helps our students learn how the world is put together and how it can be improved!

Saber Dads!

He who sings prays twice.
                                  St. Augustine

If you attended last night's 5:30 p.m. mass at St. John Neumann's, you heard the Saber Dads lead the choir.  It was an awesome reminder of the power of prayer and the gift of time.

As St. Augustine reminds us, when we use the gifts that God gave us in prayer, it is doubly powerful. It is better still when a group of men, united by their children's school and their own deep faith, gather together and lend their voice to a mass. It was a privilege to be in the pews.

Important, too, is the time these dads commit to being part of this group.  Weekends are a precious commodity.  It sends a great message to our children when dads carve out the time to sing and pray together.  Thank you!!

The Saber Dads are just one of the groups that makes St. Gabriel's Catholic School such a wonderful community.

Welcome back!

It is hard to believe that we are in 2016! As St. Gabriel's enters this new year, we can say with confidence that no school in Austin is better prepared for student success.  Come and see our new building: 29,000 sqft. filled with innovative spaces built for learning, playing, and praying.  See our classes filled with children who are growing intellectually, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. See our prime teacher/student ratio that allows for real collaboration between students and teachers and between students themselves.  The campus is humming and electric.   2016 promises great things!  On behalf of the faculty and staff, thank you for your partnership.  May God walk with us this year and every year.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today all of the students, faculty, and staff gathered in the Commons for our annual Thanksgiving Feast.  We enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving meal including turkey, stuffing, cranberries, etc.  Mr. Turkey even showed up and danced the “Turkey Dance!”  This wonderful event was made possible by our fantastic cafeteria staff, our teachers, and our volunteer parents.  The Thanksgiving Feast is the only time in our school year when all of our students come together and share a meal.  It is truly a special event.

Our School community is blessed in so many ways.  On behalf of the faculty and staff of St. Gabriel's Catholic School, thank you.  Thank you for sending your beautiful children to us every day.   Thank you for your support and partnership; it makes a difference. Thank you for opening your hearts to us and one another.  Also, thank you for including us in your prayers.  Be assured that your family is included in ours.

Happy Thanksgiving!
